Storm Damage

Jul 15, 2024

Dear Queen of Apostles Community,

As you may be aware, there has been damage across the City of Joliet as a result of the severe weather that came down this evening.

Unfortunately, the Main Campus of Queen of Apostles was damaged during the storm by what appears to have been a microburst. Power is out across the campus and a number of trees and powerlines are down.

  • The rectory garage was demolished, probably by a microburst, and the rectory itself sustained damage to windows and the roof.

  • The Parish Center was mildly damaged by felled trees.

  • Old St. Paul's Church and Queen of Apostles School appear to be undamaged.

We must advise everyone to STAY AWAY FROM THE MAIN CAMPUS until further notice. Downed power lines are strewn across Woodlawn Avenue and in our parking lot and create a hazard. It is unsafe to enter the premises at this time.

Masses at the Main Campus are cancelled for Tuesday, July 16th. Further cancellations, if necessary, will be announced. We sincerely hope that power can be restored soon.

Additionally, the Parish Office is closed on Tuesday, July 16th.

At this time, we do not have any report of significant damage at the East Campus or Old St. Patrick's Church, but we will be assessing that overnight.

As we assess the damage, we thank God that it was not more extensive and, most importantly, that no one was hurt. We pray for those who are not as fortunate and for all who were adversely affected by the weather we've experienced.

We will be sure to update you as we go forward.

Wishing you the very best in the Lord, we remain,

Confident in the Providence of God,

Father Michael Lane, Father Rudolphe Arty, and Father Greg Alberts
